5 Tips For Enjoying Your Edible Experience

Edibles are growing in popularity among medical marijuana patients and recreational smokers alike. As the cannabis industry expands in Colorado, patients can now enjoy a much wider selection of THC-infused snacks, desserts, and even beverages. 1. Be Mindful of Your Dose

In the early days of medical marijuana, dosing with edibles was somewhat of a crapshoot. Certain products were known to be particularly potent, but few products included information about how strong the edible actually was. Nowadays, things are different – especially here in Boulder. According to Colorado’s edible dosing guidelines, a standard dose is 10 milligrams.

2. Consider Your Tolerance

Although the standard dose is 10 milligrams, the frequency with which you use cannabis will play a role in how edibles affect you. For a first-timer or occasional smoker, it might be a good idea to start with as little as 5 milligrams. For a more experienced patient, it may take 20 milligrams to have a noticeable effect.

3. Be Patient

When patients smoke cannabis, the effects can be felt very quickly, typically within 15 minutes or less. Edibles, however, can take much longer to sink in. Depending on the potency of the medication, your body composition, and your metabolism, it could take anywhere from 30 minutes to a few hours to really hit you. Trust the label on the packaging, and resist upping your dose until you feel the first one.

4. Eat Before Dosing

It is almost always recommended to take medication on a full stomach, and cannabis is no exception. For many patients, taking edibles on an empty stomach will help them kick in faster – for others, the effects can be a bit overwhelming. Consider how much alcohol you’ve had, as well – alcohol has been found to increase the concentration of THC in your blood.

5. Clear Your Schedule

If you plan on taking an edible, make sure you don’t have anywhere to be. If you are planning to go somewhere, make sure you have a safe ride planned in advance. Do not make the mistake of taking an edible before driving, thinking that you have time before it hits you – this is a dangerous and illegal behavior. Always dose responsibly!
